Genealogy News & Meetings

29th August 2015
Excellent Monthly Meeting at Kerikeri today. We shared Accounts of sad, happy and unusual occurrences in the lives of our Ancestors. Most entertaining! I had the great good fortune to acquire 11 Indexed CDs of  the 1841 Census for Lincolnshire. We were also Reminded that Kerikeri Library has a subscription to Ancestry.com which we are encouraged to use. Timely for me as I undertake a great deal of research on behalf of others.

28th February 2015
At Kerikeri's Monthly Genealogy Meeting we shared Family Myths.

We discovered that many of us had myths surrounding ancestors and sorting out fact from fiction can be quite a task!
I was on my hobby-horse regarding Henry Sherman of Dedham, Essex and the persistent myth that his wife was Agnes Butter or Butler as well as the myth that he was the son of Thomas of Yaxley. Enough said!

Our Treasurer Neil reported financial matters and also shared with us an interesting meeting he had with the Bay of Islands Group. He particularly mentioned an informative talk on New Family Search and told us he had managed to arrange the same talk to be presented to our Kerikeri Branch sometime in the near future.

We learnt that the Proctor Library in Kerikeri now has free access to Ancestry.

Kerikeri, New Zealand, Genealogy Group held its monthly meeting today. Members shared information regarding their "brick walls''. There was much lively discussion. The trading table had a number of most interesting books and CDs. I was particularly pleased to acquire a CD for the National Burial Index for England and Wales (which has over 5 million records indexed from 1538 - 2000).
