BEATRIX POTTER

BEATRIX POTTER, the children's writer, 1866-1943.

My brother, Michael J. Wood, London Genealogist,  has kindly sent to me some interesting information much from his own personal research.   Our great grandfather Henry Salmon's first cousin married Beatrix Potter's uncle.:

He has listed the information with dates so my intention now is to create a chart. Update: Now created: Four small charts added; [one altered to be consistent with the other three].

NEW UPDATE

After trying out various things I finally worked out how to present the Charts so that the reader doesn't have to Click on some charts or scroll from left to right to read them.  As usual, when I found a method of doing it I wondered why on earth I hadn't thought of it before!

My Additional note:

Catherine, Duchess of Cornwall's 3 x Great Uncle was the Leeds University pro-chancellor Dr Arthur Lupton, whose brother-in-law was Lord Ashton,1st Baron Ashton of Hyde. Baron Ashton was the first cousin of Beatrix.

Two of Lord Ashton's sisters married Lupton brothers; Sir Charles Lupton to Katharine and Arthur Lupton to Harriet. Lord Ashton's first cousin, Helen Potter (nee Leech), was the mother of Beatrix Potter  The Lupton family are the paternal ancestors of Catherine Duchess of Cambridge.

Ashton married Eva Margaret James, daughter of John Henry James and his wife Jane Ramsden Ashworth, in 1886. They had four children, two sons and two daughters:

i. Thomas Henry Ashton (8 October 1887 - 20 September 1897)

ii. The Hon. Marion Evelyn Ashton (born 1890) - married Major Robert Wood

iii. The Hon. Margaret Joan Ashton (born 1893) - married Hugh Whistler

iv. Thomas Henry Raymond Ashton

(2nd October 1901 - 21 March 1983) - succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Ashton of Hyde.

I will be extending the Heritage of Beatrix as I collate various lines.
